Thanksgiving 2011

As I write these words, I am enjoying a week of extended family fellowship.

I am so thankful for Godly people who have influenced my family.

Thanksgiving 2011 finds us in unsettled times and a troubled economy.     There is social upheaval and unrest.  An entitlement mentality cripples and imprisons the human spirit with little gratitude.  However!  Gratitude and thankfulness go hand in hand.

A world view without God leaves us powerless to give thanks for the source of blessings for which we cannot lay claim.  If that offends you, go with your generic Thanksgiving if you must.  However, Thanksgiving did not begin, nor will it end that way.

Some are the most grateful hard-working people I know, have little chance of ever being wealthy or economically worry free.  They live day to day, hand to hand.   Meanwhile, a small percentage of people are occupied in our cities, expressing rebellious and sometimes unlawful behavior, unable to voice their gratitude for health and blessings they actually have.  They will clearly miss Thanksgiving 2011.

Thanksgiving is an annual celebration of what must be a reminder of daily and specific gratitude that we need to express.

  • It is a human trait.
  • It is an attitude adjustment.
  • Giving thanks is a healing act.
  • It is an expression of hope.

The scripture says gratitude is God?s will in our lives.

I believe our Godly worship must begin with gratitude. ?Come into His presence with? thanksgiving.? It is a good attitude.  Let your Thanksgiving Season begin early . . . now!

My friend, Jim, enjoys keeping old cars running.  He never saw a Ford he didn?t like.  He says, all they need is an attitude adjustment and they will almost heal themselves. He?s laid hands on my old Ford van several times. I sort of think it?s like a worship experience for him. Actually, he admits that working on old cars adjusts his attitude.

I have often closed the cockpit door and smiled at my pilot friends and we remark to each other, ?They pay us to do this??  And I realize I cannot lay claim for how blessed I am in so many ways.  I give thanks to God.

Whatever your circumstances this Thanksgiving Day, close the door to your heart for a few minutes, find an old hymn of thanksgiving and make it your prayer.  Give thanks for the loved ones in your life and recite specific gratitude.

The scripture says, ?Give thanks for what the Lord has done. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God . . .? ?1 Thessalonians 5:18.

This song expresses it for me!

We are so blessed, by the gifts from Your hand.

We just can?t understand why You loved us so much.

We are so blessed, we just can?t find a way,

Or the words that can say!  Thank you Lord, for your touch.

When we?re empty you fill us, till we overflow;

When we?re hungry you feed us, and cause us to know

We are so blessed; take what we have to bring;

Take it all, everything.  Lord we love you so much.
